Today I want to talk about something a little different. Usually I talk about fashion, makeup, food – but exercise? I’m not especially known for working out. And as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that is something that needs to change in my life. I’ve never been very athletic, and have often felt weak and out of shape. So over the last month and and a half, I’ve been working on changing that through Pop Physique.
If you haven’t heard of Pop Physique before, allow me to explain. It’s all over LA. Billboards, ads, you name it. Pop Physique is popular here – and for good reason. It’s a workout that includes Barre exercises, cardio, weights, and yoga. There’s are some ballet stretches here, but it’s not exclusively for ballerinas. Every single class I went to featured a wide variety of real women (and men!), doing a real workout. And let me tell you, it’s a hard workout. At the end, you feel like you’ve really gotten somewhere, and I noticed subtle changes with how I felt after the first week.
Before / After Pop Physique
My goal wasn’t weight loss, or anything like that. I just wanted to feel like a healthier, more toned version of myself. And after 5 weeks of Pop Physique, I feel like I got there. I don’t feel so exhausted all the time, and my stomach feels more toned. I still have a ways to go before I get the abs I’ve been dreaming of, but so far I can’t believe how much better I feel.
If you’ve never tried a Barre Method class before – don’t be scared! I hadn’t either, and I was SO nervous. And you know what? I was totally fine! I struggled, I was uncoordinated at first, but the instructor was always willing to give me a bit more help. There were some moves I couldn’t quite do, but there was no shaming when I took a quick break or had to steady myself. I found it to be a really inviting atmosphere, with students of all shapes, sizes, and abilities.
If you’re considering going, here’s a few tips from a fellow newbie:
+ Wear pants! I know the ads feature short-shorts, but wear something that covers your knees. There’s a lot of moves that will mean that you’re kneeling, and having some cushioning is handy.
+ Don’t be scared! As I said above, don’t feel nervous. You’ll get the hang of it sooner than you think.
+ Small movements mean a deeper workout. Pop Physique is all about teeny isolated movements. Up an inch, down an inch. It feels strange at first, but smaller movements lead to better muscle development.
+ Go often. I need to take my own advice on this one! I went about every 3 days, mostly because I’m on the lazier side. Try to go at least twice a week, and push yourself to go more often!
+ Sign up for their emails. SERIOUSLY. I get the most amazing coupons from Pop Physique’s emails every week. You pretty much will never have to pay full price if you check your email regularly.
So that’s my review. I loved Pop Physique, and it was much more my style than I thought it would be. It’s a great workout, it’s a friendly atmosphere, and I definitely notice a difference. Try it out!
